The Rio Grande do Sul in the state of Porto Allegre has become one of the largest producers of precious stones in Brazil .
Porto Allegre is the southernmost state of Brazil. Its deposits are among the first in stone extraction and export: amethysts, citrine, agate and all varieties of quartz.
According to the IBGM (Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals), Rio Grande do Sul is the second largest Brazilian exporter of raw and polished gems, surpassed only by Minas Gerais.

Located in the central region of Brazil, Salvador de Bahia was the first capital of colonial Brazil. It is the second largest producer of rough colored gemstones
